Martijn Vanbuel

Bandleader and double bassist Martijn Vanbuel originally from Belgium, but a Taiwan resident for over 5 years, studied Jazz in Leuven (Belgium) and in Paris (France) at the prestigious National Superieur Conservatory (CNSMDP). Before moving to Asia he work in and around Belgium a lot as a double bassist, among others with Frank Vaganee (Brussels Jazz Orcestra), Dre Pallemaerts, Kurt Van Herck, Robin Verheyen, Joachim Badenhorst, a.o.
After moving to Taiwan in 2006 he quickly became one of the most wanted musicians on the scene, o.a. playing with Matthew Lien, Wang Li Hong, A-Mei. He frequently accompanies international jazz musicians on their tour to Taiwan, such as Tony Lakatos, Joel Holmes, Roy Patterson, Claude Diallo, James Carter, Sriji Poovalur, Jamal Muhammed.
With the succesful Taiwanese group Sizhukong, that fused jazz and Chinese traditional music, Martijn has played over 100 concerts, in Taiwan but also following the group internationally to jazz festivals such as Jarasum Jazz 2008 (Korea), Penang Jazz 2009 (Malaysia), Hong Kong Jazz Festival 2009, Vilnius Jazz 2010 (Lithuania). In 2010 the group went on a diplomatic trip to 4 countries in Central America.
Also a composer and producer Martijn gets recognition, especially after winning the Golden Melody Award for Best Producer in 2011. Martijn has produced and recorded music for Taiwan artists such as Huang Hsia Hu (黃小琥), Hsie Yu-Wei (謝宇威), Peggy Hsu (許哲珮), Feng Fei Fei (鳳飛飛), Gu Hao (古皓), Li Sheng Jie (李聖傑), Zhang Jie (張傑). He teaches at National Tainan University of the Arts and performs professionally on double-bass, electric bass, piano and accordion.
Besides being a solid bass-player he also proliferates his instrument as a melodic instrument that can take the foreground. Martijn claim that on the double bass he gets inspiration as much from listening to great jazz players (Dave Holland and Charlie Haden as foremost) as from folk and ethnic music. One of his idols is Tunisian oud-player Anouar Brahem.

Tyler Blanton Trio

New York based Jazz vibraphonist and composer Tyler Blanton has garnered considerable notice in recent years as a rising star on his instrument. His 2010 debut album, "Botanic," was chosen as a top 10 albums of the year by both Hot House Magazine and Village Voice Critic's poll. Blanton's bands have consisted of some of the major players in the New York Jazz scene including Saxophonists Joel Frahm and Donny McCaslin, and drummers Matt Wilson and Ari Hoenig, among others. Critics have described Blanton's music style as lyrical, accessible and modern in the right ways.
