Andrew Saragossi is a Brisbane based saxophonist and multi-intrumentalist who is passionate about originality and consistently pushes the boundaries of the traditional notions of jazz.
Andrew is one third of contemporary jazz/prog-rock trio Milton Man Gogh (with Zac Sakrewski & Benjamin Shannon) who were one of three finalists for the Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year award at the 2018 Australian Jazz Awards ("The Bells"). The group also received a highly commended award for their debut album "Stress to Impress" at the 2018 Queensland Music Awards in the jazz category and their debut single "Fork (in a World of Soup)" was voted #75 on the 4zzz Hot 100 of 2017 (the only instrumental track to make the list).
Andrew is also a member of original music projects such as George Cauldron, Jive Canyon, Brisbane Conduction Orchestra, Concocted Consciousness, Martin Kay's Forage, Saragossi/Svoboda and Matt's Mates all of which have released or will be releasing new work in 2018. Andrew is also involved with the Stairwell Project - Music in Hospitals initiative championed by Peter Breen from Jugglers Art Space.
In 2018 Andrew launched a new record label and concert series called SuperSonic which actively promotes and strives to build upon the community and culture of original, experimental and improvised music in Brisbane.
Andrew is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (2011) and will commence his Master of Music studies at Conservatorium Maastricht in the Netherlands in September 2018. Andrew has also completed study in the field of Law at the University of Queensland (2015).
In his career so far Andrew has had the pleasure of performing with the likes of, Randy Brecker (USA), Gordon Goodwin (USA), Vincent Gardiner (USA), Christian Means Svendsen (NOR), Franz Hautzinger (AUT), Isabella Duthoit (FRA), Tom Berlinson, Kristin Berardi, Erik Griswold, Toby Wren, Rafael Karlen and Steve Barry to name an eclectic few.
With a strong connection to her European roots, Svoboda is currently based in the Netherlands studying a Masters of Music at Conservatorium Maastricht under Matthias Nowak, John Goldsby (WDR Big Band), Sebastian Gramss (Cologne) and Robert Landfermann (Cologne). With a focus on soloistic double bass techniques and performance, her solo-project Helen Svoboda's Vegetable-Bass is focused specifically on the intricate combination of the voice and the contemporary sound world of the double bass.
Svoboda recently returned from an Australian tour in June-July 2019 to launch her newest releases across the east coast - specifically Vol. 2 from 'The Biology of Plants' (recent winners of the QLD MUSIC AWARDS 2019), Sleep Architecture from Helen Svoboda's SPROUT & Afar from 'Meatshell'. Before returning Europe she also attended the renowned BANFF International Workshop for Creative and Improvised Music in August 2019, under the mentorship of Tyshawn Sorey and Vijay Iyer.
